Maya Tillman began her dancing career at age 10, although she had been active in gymnastics since she was 4 years old. She started her dance training at the Bonnie Neville School of Dance. In 1992, she took a break from dance and gymnastics to cheer at Central Christian School, a stint that lasted from her 7th grade year to her Senior year in high school.
Later, she went on to cheer at Hutchinson Community College. While attending Hutchinson, she was an independent choreographer for cheer teams and a gymnastics coach for the YMCA. In 2000, she transferred to the University of Kansas where she performed on the Spirit of Kansas College All-Star Squad.
Maya also earned a spot on the locally successful Unity Hip Hop Dance Troupe at KU. She performed with Unity for four years and was the President/co-choreographer for the group for the last two years. She also took part in organizing hip hop clinics in Lawrence. Maya is currently in her 3rd year of assistant coaching at Lawrence High School. She has graduated from KU with a degree in Human Biology and is pursuing a PhD in Physical Therapy. We are excited to have her in the ATRM family!
